A little about us

This blog was started due to urgings from friends and family to share our ranch life adventures.  There are seven of us, Cowman, me and our five dirty ranch kids ranging in age from 4-13. We live on a ranch in  Montana, 40 miles from the closest “town” and 1.5 hours from the nearest Wal-Mart. We are surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery around, some of the coolest animals and some of the dirtiest kids.

The kids keep life interesting, and since we home school, they keep life loud as well! The laundry and baking are never-ending around here but I will endeavor to take the time to share with you the beauty and simplicity of our life, so that hopefully whenever you visit here, you leave our front porch with a smile and a laugh, and the warmth that comes from family and home.

We would love to hear from you so please leave comments! If you’re shy but still want to stay in touch, the email is fromamontanafrontporch@gmail.com , or stop by and visit us on facebook www.facebook.com/fromamontanafrontporch , there is always something fun going on over there!

Thank you for visiting us.

Love from here,

  1. Hi Bobbie!

Love your blog! Your sis-in-law Jennifer sent it to me as we both share a love of Montana! Blessings to you and your family and I look forward to reading more of your posts!

  2. Hi Bobbie! Thanks for the “follow”! What part of Montana are you in? p.s — love your banner photo with the barn and the sunlight gleaming through!

      • Oh wow! My sister lives just outside of Bozeman. It IS beautiful, and why DOES the sky seem bigger there??! I usually get up there once or twice a year to visit. How sad that your barn is no longer around. Glad you got some beautiful pics while it was still standing.

      • Hello. I used to live in Laurel, Mt, just west of Billings, before that we wer in Belfry, Mt… We are now in SE Montana, Fallon County… Love your page, just found it from Facebook . Thank you for sharing your story 🙂

  3. Hey, Busy Mama! I nominated you for Lovely Blog Award today. You should get a Lovely New Baby Award too. Nothing you need to do, just know that I enjoy your blog and look forward to your next post. 🙂

      • It’s a bit like the chain letter of the olden days, only in the blog world, it’s meant to increase traffic to your blog (if you’re into that kind of thing), like offering a blog-roll sampling to other followers. The rules are at the end of the post, before my picture series. Do or don’t, it’s entirely up to you! Just know that you are enjoyed and appreciated by moi. http://wp.me/p28k6D-qB

  4. Your website is fantastic, it’s one of the best I’ve seen on WordPress. My wife now has your recipe for homemade oatmeal cream pies, and I can’t wait to get to them. I only wish more families operated with the same motivation you guys do. Whether you live in Memphis, like my wife and I, or New York, or the rocky mountains, you guys are truly a great living example of what family life is all about. If more families lived with the same motivation as you, we’d all be a lot better off. I too have a WordPress website http://www.noulteriormotive.com and, when you get the time, you might want to stop by. It’s G RATED and Tucker and Gabriel might enjoy watching a video I have in an article I wrote titled A MOUNTAIN GORILLA CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE WONDERFUL KIND… There’s nothing shocking or scary in the video. It’s really fun to watch. And, I just started following your website and really look forward to staying in touch with you guys through you website…and I’m sure my wife and I will enjoy more of your recipes.

  5. My husband’s hometown is Broadview, MT. Just a 45 min drive from Walmart, downright close by MT standards. I’m curious where exactly you are at…there is a whole lot of MT that’s 40 miles to town. (A concept that’s completely incomprehensible to most of the people in the US.) : ) I went to college in Bozeman, and we lived in Broadview for the last 10 years, but recently moved to MN, close to where I grew up. Looking at your pictures makes me miss MT and our family there!

  6. Morning Bobbie…….Just stumbled upon your blog..It totally made my day. It is so fun and almost like a personal visit. I enjoyed it immensely and look forward to more posts from you arriving in my email. Do you operate a B&B or something out of your home?….I get that impression. You have a way with words and it comes across friendly and charming…will be watching for more of the same…..Muaaah, another Rocky Mountain girl…..Char

    • Oh thank you so very much! You just made my day! No we don’t run a B&B but I always think that would be really fun! I simply love company! I love to have people come and feel at home. I love to watch visitors transform during their visit from stressed to comfortable and relaxed. To remember the simple joys of comfort food, a good book, a quiet walk, a warm fire, or a rocker on the front porch. Some people can’t visit personally, so I try to give that with words and pictures. Thank you for letting me know that I am succeeding on some level! 🙂 Love, Bobbie

  7. Oh I am excited there is someone who lives in MT and lives 1 1/2 hr from the nearest Walmart too!!! I live in Southeast MT …hubby and I manage 22,000 acre cattle ranch. We had the same requests so I started a blog ….look forward to seeing your writings…..

  8. My husband and I sincerely hope that someday, we can live that far from a Wal-Mart! 🙂 What a beautiful place you have to call home! I’m now

  9. Hi this a great blog. I went to Montana a couple of years ago to visit my sister she lives near Billings and works at Chico Hot Springs in Paradise Valley, beautiful up there. Wish I was there.

  10. Fabulous blog!!! My family is from Clyde Park … a teeny tiny blip on the map. Just found you and this is where I’ll be with my morning coffee!!! GorGeeeeous photos!! Makes me long for my “real home” ♥♥

  11. IF YOUR SHY…..This is what you typed above and YOU home school. Your is used for – your house, your car, your child (possession). You’re stands for YOU ARE. So, in the sentence you typed above, it should be IF YOU’RE shy – meaning If you are shy. I suppose you also put an apostrophe for plurals such as look at the dog’s and cat’s, when it should be dogs and cats. PLEASE do not teach your children incorrectly on your and you’re, or there, their and they’re or plurals (notice there is no apostrophe before the “s” on plurals). Also, IT’S ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS stands for IT IS. DO NOT EVER put an apostrophe for things such as “The dog chewed its bone. The cat licked its paw.” It is NOT the dog chewed IT IS bone and the cat licked it is paw. THINK before you teach.

    • Cate,
Here are a few things you should know about me.
-I never mind someone pointing out a mistake to me that I made, so thank you.
-Normally, the grammar police do not bother me.
-I get really annoyed by people who love to make assumptions about those they don’t know.
-I love the saying “You attract more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.”
-I believe one of the most important lessons I can teach my children is to think before they speak and decide if being rude to someone is really worth it in the end.
If you want to know more about me than these things, I recommend reading the blog. Thank you for your comment. Bobbie

    • I guess the owner of this site doesn’t need me to defend her, but ….. wow. Do you hear yourself? I can relate to noticing spelling or grammar errors when reading a paper or posting, but to actually point it out in such a rude manner…..whew. Take a step back and breathe in and out slowly.

  12. Greetings Bobbie 🙂
I’ve landed at your web site via the ‘similar to’ feature on Facebook. I follow blogs about raising chickens. Montana caught my eye, and I chose to follow your FB posts. I am born/raised from Pocatello, Idaho. I now live at Winthrop, Washington which is on the northeastern (dry side) of the state. We live 1.5 hours from the nearest stop light in one direction, and an hour from the other direction. This small community is nearly the end of the road unless you’re a bird flying to Canada.
Keep up the good work! Cheers from izzi~avis

    • I’m so glad you found us and have chosen to stick around and visit! Your community sounds wonderfully isolated. I love small communities and the closeness they foster. I’ve been through Pocatello but have not had the pleasure of experiencing Washington yet. Someday…. 😀 Thank you again for visiting! ~ Bobbie

    • Tine, Thank you for stopping by to visit and taking a moment to chat. Do you mind me asking where in Montana you will be visiting? The whole state is beautiful so no matter which direction you are headed you are sure to enjoy it! ~ Bobbie

      • Hi Bobbie,
We have just booked our flight and have yet to determine the travel route, but it will mainly be the west (combined with idaho) I would be happy to get back to you as soon as we have a decent route, feedback from you as a local is always a bonus! Tine

  13. I was drawn to your blog just from your blog name that I saw via comments on a another blog. Now that I have read your “About Us,” I am hooked. I look forward to reading your blog. I visited Montana once, on a family vacation after my junior year of high school, and I have loved it ever since. I look forward to reading your story. 🙂
